Joint procurement deal sets wheels in motion

Automotive giants BMW and Daimler are planning to adopt an innovative procurement approach in an attempt to cut costs, according to reports.

Germany’s auto motor und sport magazine claimed that the two companies were planning to cooperate in the purchasing of certain essential components.

Citing sources at both companies, the publication said that the proposed agreement would relate to basic components such as electric window lifts, ventilation systems and seat frames.

The companies involved, however, are staying tight lipped – both have so far refused to comment on the tie-in.
